Case In Point: U.S. Naval Academy IT

Coleman supports the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) at the United States Naval Academy (USNA), which supports the IT needs of the more than 7,000 Midshipmen, faculty, staff, and computer users. Our software developers and systems administrator support enterprise-wide systems for the academic, military, management, and administrative tasks of day-to-day operations, operational data storage and data warehouses, and business intelligence systems and applications. We maintain external and internal websites, web services, and web applications. Coleman has improved USNA web-based applications and content to conform to applicable government and USNA standards, including Accessibility (Section 508). We interact with stakeholders to refine requirements, and development results are presented to stakeholders for acceptance. We create testing plans and scripts based on requirements and applicable standards. We use automated compliance checking tools for 508 compliance and perform website development services following industry best practices in a J2EE/SOA architecture using Java, Adobe, HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript. One of our major accomplishments was a major redesign and development of the Academy’s website, for which the Academy received a CHINFO Merit Award for the 2nd best website in the Navy out of 474 entries.
