As President and CEO, Dr. Coleman is responsible for a professional workforce supporting a client base across multiple federal agencies, state and local governments, and universities. Under her leadership, The Coleman Group provides information technology solutions and services in cyber security, health care informatics, procurement management solutions, software development solutions, and security services.

Through her efforts, The Coleman Group has grown over 100% since its inception 20 years ago. As a graduated 8(a) company, The Coleman Group continues to succeed by expanding its client base into the defense sector and international markets. Dr. Coleman attributes this growth and success to her competent, dedicated staff as well as a corporate value system that is client-focused and driven by integrity.

As an accomplished, well-recognized business owner, she has been invited to the White House and Capitol Hill to champion initiatives related to small business development and innovation. Dr. Coleman has appeared on Channel 8 News and numerous radio shows as an expert on entrepreneurship and the role of cyber security in addressing emerging threats to business and intellectual capital. She has also been featured in several newspapers and magazines, including Black Enterprise Magazine and Washington Business Journal.
Being regarded as a small business leader dedicated to excellence, Dr. Coleman’s efforts have been acknowledged with various awards and accolades, including one of the “Women Who Mean Business” by the Washington Business Journal. She received the SCEDA Award for Entrepreneur of the Year and was commended for her volunteer service by the Governor of the State of Maryland, Martin O’Malley. She was a finalist for the SECAF Contractor of the Year. Through Dr. Coleman’s leadership, The Coleman Group was recognized as one of the Top 2011 Businesses by DiversityBusiness.com.

Dr. Coleman serves on the Board of Directors for the University System of Maryland, Universities at Shady Grove, and is a member of the Small Business AFCEA Bethesda Chapter. She belongs to numerous industry advisory boards and organizations. Her affiliations and memberships include Women In Transportation (WTS); Security Industry Association (SIA); Women in Technology (WIT); Technology Council of Maryland; Small and Emerging Contractors Advisory Forum (SECAF); National Contract Management Association; Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO); American Public Transportation Association (APTA); The Presidents’ Roundtable (PRT); Industry Advisory Council (IAC); Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMMS); and Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). Dr. Coleman is also a member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Dr. Coleman is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics. Her Master’s degree is in Information Systems from George Washington University, Washington, DC. Her Doctorate is from Baylor University, Waco, Texas, where she researched the underrepresentation of Black Women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math companies.

Inspired by her parents, Dr. Coleman’s entrepreneurial spirit was developed at a very young age. Her parents were business owners of a chartered bus service based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. From the age of five, she was involved in running the business. Early on, she prepared bank deposits and receipts. Eventually, she was responsible for reviewing contracts and providing administrative support. She saw her parents work hard but also saw their passion and enjoyment in owning their own business.

Dr. Coleman is committed to the belief that there is no substitute for a good education and hard work. “Being a woman in business is not for the faint of heart; you must press towards the mark of achieving your goals.” Dr. Coleman feels that personal success will only be evident when we leave a positive legacy for future generations to emulate.

As a business owner, she hopes to be remembered as someone who was competent, compassionate, and caring, someone who made a difference in the community, and someone who held integrity as the platinum standard. Furthermore, she wants to be remembered as someone who cared about her client’s missions and was a true partner in all business efforts.

Mr. Cole’s experience includes capture and management of contracts for network operations center services, software development for enterprise business and GIS applications, and a variety of security support services. Additionally, Mr. Cole was responsible for implementing and achieving ISO 9001 and SEI CMMI certifications for business units he managed. Mr. Cole is a graduate of the University of Maryland and is a member of AFCEA International.
